Child Illness/Injury
Children who are ill are not to be brought to the center.
If a child should become ill while at the center, parents will be contacted immediately. Sick children will be isolated within my sight or hearing and made as comfortable as possible. Children should be picked up within one hour. If the child is not picked up with in one hour the emergency contact person on the child’s enrollment form will be contacted.
Signs and symptoms include but are not limited to:
- Severe coughing, causing the child to become red or blue in the face or make whooping sounds
- Difficult or rapid breathing
- Stiff neck
- Has not been on a prescribed medication for at least 24 hours or continues to have symptoms
- Diarrhea (more than one abnormally loose stool with in a 24 hour period
- Vomiting more than once within the last 24 hours
- Temperature of 100 deg. F or higher taken by the auxiliary method
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Chicken Pox
- Strep Throat
- Untreated infectious skin patches/rash
- Unusually dark urine and/or gray or white stool and yellowish skin or eyes
- Children with runny noses that continue for more than 3 days and turn from clear to yellow/green will be asked to leave because the color indicates there could be an infection
- Head Lice
- Any other unusual sign or symptom of illness
- Children who are unable to participate due to illness in the typical day to day activities of the daycare
For illnesses that do not apply to the above policy children may return to the center when they are symptom free, have been appropriately treated or have been given medical approval to return to child care. I will follow procedures on personal cleanliness and communicable diseases in accordance with licensing rules and the guidelines for exclusion of children from child care as adapted from the Division of Public Health.
Returning to the Day Care
- A child must be fever free (under 100 degrees), diarrhea free and vomit free for an entire 24 hours before returning to day care
- If the child is prescribed medication for a contagious condition, the child must be on the medication for at least 48 hours before returning to the daycare and deemed not contagious by the child’s physician.
- A child who has head lice must be thoroughly check by childcare personnel to ensure that no lice or eggs remain in the hair before the parent may leave the child at Alley’s Kids Day Care.
I will report communicable diseases, when required, to the local health department and to parents of all enrolled children. Parents of all enrolled children will be notified when their child has been exposed to an illness other than a communicable disease.
Injury
Superficial injuries will be washed with soap and water and covered with a bandage or treated with ice. Parents will be told about the minor injury when the child is picked up at the center. If there is a need for emergency medical treatment, 911 will be called and the child will be taken to Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. Should an ambulance be needed, parents will be responsible for any costs. Parents will be contacted as soon as possible after contacting 911. If possible, I will ask that your child be taken to the emergency medical facility that you designate on the child’s enrollment form.
All medications administered, accidents or injuries occurring during the time the child is in my care, marked changes in behavior or appearance and any observation of injuries to a child’s body received outside of my care will be entered into the center’s medical logbook.
Medications/Ointments
I will not administer medications unless directed to do so by parents. Medications must be in original packaging, and I must have written consent on hand.
Prior to applying sunscreen or insect repellant to a child, I will obtain a written authorization from the child’s parent. The authorization shall include the brand and the ingredient strength.
Child and Provider Absence

Vacations taken by you and your family will require payment of your regular rate as an industry standard to hold your child’s place at Alleys’s Kids Day Care. If your child will not attend on a regular scheduled day please let me know within 24 hours before your child’s arrival time.
If a child who is scheduled to arrive at the center does not arrive within 30 minutes after the specified time on the written agreement signed by the parent, and I have not been notified in advance of the child’s absence, I will attempt to contact the parent or guardian to determine the child’s whereabouts.
I will transport children who attend school in the Sauk Prairie School District to and from the center in the mornings and after school.
Provider Absence
I will take 2 weeks of vacation each year. For this time I will not charge. I will let you know of this time at least 30 days in advance so you and your family can make alternate arrangements.
No services will be provided on New Years Day, Good Friday and Easter Monday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on a Saturday I will be closed on the previous Friday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday I will be closed the following Monday. Regular Fees are charged for daycare closure due to holidays per the industry standard. I may be willing to do childcare on these days but there will be other fees associated.
In the event that I or a household member becomes ill, I will notify the parents of all regularly-scheduled children no later than 9pm the night before that the center will be closed. Regular tuition fees will be charged up to 10 days, anything after that the fees will be waived.
In case of an emergency situation that requires my immediate attention, I will call Derek or Anita Austin. My emergency back up people will come to the center to stay with the children during my absence. Parents will be called to be notified of the situation and the decision will be up to them weather they would like to come pick up there child or they can pick up at the regular scheduled time. I will provide my emergency back up person with a complete orientation that will include the names, ages, arrival and departure information, people authorized to pick up, special health care needs, and emergency contact information Regular tuition fees will be charged when I am absent for an emergency.
